3 Delicious Ways to Cook Spiced Potatoes: Instant Pot, Slow Cooker, and Air Fryer Methods

Instant Pot Spiced Potatoes: Quick, Tender, and Full of Flavor in Just Minutes

Use the Instant Pot’s “Sauté” function to sauté onions, garlic, and spices. Then, add boiled potatoes and water (or stock), and cook on the “Pressure Cook” setting for 10-12 minutes. The Instant Pot’s pressure-cooking function ensures tender potatoes in a fraction of the time, while maintaining all the rich flavors of the dish.

Slow Cooker Spiced Potatoes: Rich, Aromatic Flavors with Minimal Effort

Layer your sautéed spices, boiled potatoes, and any additional ingredients in the slow cooker. Set it to low heat for 4-5 hours. The slow cooker’s gentle heat helps meld the flavors together, allowing for a rich, aromatic dish with minimal supervision and effort.

Air Fryer Spiced Potatoes: Crispy, Flavorful Perfection with a Modern Twist

After marinating your potatoes in the spice mixture, place them in the air fryer basket at 375°F for about 15 minutes, flipping halfway. The air fryer will give your potatoes a crispy texture on the outside while keeping them soft and flavorful inside. Finish by adding a bit of sauce in the air fryer basket to allow the flavors to combine for a crispy, delicious twist on the classic recipe.

Tips and Suggestions on Aloo Dum

Getting the seasoning right

Cooking the potatoes correctly

Potatoes should be cooked until soft but not overcooked, as they will lose their shape and texture. Cut the potatoes into uniform sizes to ensure even cooking, check out our article to level-up your cooking 10 Tips for Guru-Style Cuts.

Achieving the right consistency

Aloo Dum should have a thick and slightly creamy gravy. You can adjust the consistency of the gravy by adding water or reducing it further while cooking.

Choosing the right tomato paste

Use good quality, fresh tomato paste to get the best flavor for your Aloo Dum. Alternatively, you can use fresh or canned tomatoes instead of tomato paste.

Adding cream or yogurt

To add richness and a creaminess to the dish, you can add cream or yogurt towards the end of cooking. Be careful not to curdle the yogurt by stirring it too vigorously or adding it to very hot gravy.
