A Taste of History about Philly Cheesesteak
A popular American main course that originated in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The origin of the Philly Cheesesteak can be traced back to the 1930s, when Italian immigrant Pat Olivieri and his brother Harry ran a hot dog stand in South Philadelphia.
Pitfalls on Philly Cheesesteak
Choosing the right type of meat: The classic Cheesesteak is made with sliced rib-eye steak, but many restaurants offer other options like sirloin or even chicken. It's important to choose a tender cut that can be cooked quickly on a hot surface to retain its juiciness.
Picking the cheese: The two most common types of cheese used in Philly Cheesesteak are American and provolone. Both have their unique flavor and meltability, so it's a matter of personal preference. Some restaurants even offer a mix of both!
Perfecting the bread: The bread is a crucial element of a good Cheesesteak, and it should be fresh and soft with a slightly crunchy crust. Many places use Amoroso rolls imported from Philadelphia for an authentic taste.
Choosing the toppings: While the classic Cheesesteak only has meat, cheese, and onions, many variations include peppers, mushrooms, bacon, or even egg. It's important to balance the flavors and textures to create a tasty and satisfying sandwich.
Eating it correctly: Philly Cheesesteaks are usually messy and require some skills to eat without making a mess. Some people prefer to use utensils or cut the sandwich in half, while others embrace the juiciness and dive in with their hands. Enjoy the experience and savor every bite.
